Cynthia Lord Visit!

Cynthia Lord, author of Rules,  visited Sexton Mountain today!  We are especially excited about this visit because Rules centers on the story of a big sister who happens to have a younger brother who is on the Autism Spectrum.  Through out the story, we learn a bit about autism and we also learn how to understand the perspectives of others and how our actions and words can show how we care by creating an inclusive environment.

Cynthia's visit also happens to fall on World Autism Awareness Day! We feel so lucky that Cynthia spent special time with both SRC classes and read her books about Hot Rod Hamster! We learned about the actual animals Cynthia based her characters off of! It was a wonderful experience for both students and staff!

A big THANK YOU to the Williams family for helping our Zoo Field Trip become a reality! Thank you for your generous donation!

We had so much fun at the Zoo this year! We had beautiful weather, we made all of our city buses and Max trains, and we made great memories together!

Today in Music, Mr. Davis introduced us to the amazing drum set! Each of us got a turn playing and it was super fun (and a bit loud)!

Field Trip Aquarium Style!

Thanks to DonorsChoose funding, we were able to take a school bus to the Portland Aquarium!

We were able to feed with fish seaweed!

The touch tanks were so fun to put out hands in!

Looks at all the fish!

The water felt so cold!

Feeling krill to the fish!

The fish were so close!

The tanks were so beautiful to look at!

We were able to stand and look INTO the tanks! So cool!

Miss Amanda's class inside an enormous shark's jaw!

All wet! A reminder of the fun we had!

Shark jaw photo op!

Observing the marine life.

Two finger touch!

Thanks again to DonorsChoose for funding this amazing field trip! We had a blast and learned so much about oceans, fish, and marine life!
